In love with the big screen experience, Bhumi Pednekar is all for theatres to reopen soon. Even as most countries are working to find a solution, closer home, the West Bengal government’s announcement that it will allow limited reopening of cinemas from October, has raised hope.
“I completely miss the big screen experience. Being one in the audience, I’ve always enjoyed the universal emotion towards something that’s happening on screen. Nothing can match that. So, I really hope for theatres to open soon but not the cost of audience safety,” she says, adding, “I’m not an expert, so I don’t know the right way of doing it. But we must remember that the virus is still spreading.”
The actor also urges people to help showbiz stakeholders in dire need. “We need to address the suffering of daily wagers in every way possible,” says Pednekar, whose latest film Dolly Kitty Aur Woh Chamakte Sitare took the OTT route recently.
This shifting of platforms has also been a talking point. While some are fine with the arrangement, many feel otherwise especially when it comes to bigger films.
Pednekar feels theatre and OTT can’t be compared. “Watching a film in a theatre will always be special. But I feel that Dolly Kitty… got the kind of audience it deserved on OTT. The film had travelled a lot internationally and garnered love. So, this arrangement worked in its favour as it got the deserved global release,” she adds.
