This is the last film Rishi Kapoor was working on before he passed away, and the actress tells BT that she will do whatever she can to see that the movie sees the light of the day

Juhi Chawla began 2020 on an optimistic note. The actress also had a special reason to be excited — she was all set to reunite on screen with Rishi Kapoor, for a film titled Sharmaji Namkeen. The two, who have been part of films like Bol Radha Bol (1992), Rishta Ho To Aisa (1992), Ghar Ki Izzat (1994), Saajan Ka Ghar (1994), Eena Meena Deeka (1994) and Daraar (1996), are considered to be one of Bollywood’s most popular on-screen jodis.
Though Sharmaji Namkeen’s shoot began in Delhi, it was soon stalled due to the nationwide lockdown. And then, just as she was waiting for the Coronavirus crisis to end, Juhi received yet another shocking news — that of Rishi Kapoor’s demise. The actress, who is yet to come to terms with her co-star’s death, says, “I was really excited about our film. I loved the script, the ambience on the set, the team...it had me smiling throughout. What added to all this was my lovely costar. And then, he left us. I was devastated to hear about Chintu ji’s demise.”
Given that major portions of the film have been shot, the actress is hopeful that the film will see the light of the day. “A few days ago, I received a call from Hitesh (Bhatia, director), saying that they would be trying to complete the film. It felt good to hear that. I told him that I am just a call away for any assistance they need from me,” Juhi signs off.
