(Crisp) Movie Review: BULBBUL by FENIL SETA

Bulbbul’s setting is ideal for a horror-drama flick. The sprawling and eerie haveli, the zamindari family, the British Raj, the patriarchy – everything is just correct and Meenal Agarwal's production design, Red Chillies VFX's VFX and Veera Kapur Ee's costumes add to the authenticity. However, the film is quite predictable. Also, it’s quite short at 94 minutes and lacks a punch. A few developments are not convincing and some questions are left unanswered. On the positive side, a few scenes are engaging. And performances are great. Tripti Dimri owns the film and she’s sure to benefit with this performance. Avinash Tiwari is fine as always. Rahul Bose is dependable but his character is not fleshed out well. Parambrata Chattopadhyay is natural while Pauli Dam leaves a mark. All in all, Bulbbul is plain disappointment!
