Duo celebrated the wrap of their film with a party over the weekend; Akshay Kumar, Karisma Kapoor, Riteish Deshmukh were among guests

On February 23, Varun Dhawan and Sara Ali Khan completed work on their upcoming comic caper, the David Dhawan-directed Coolie No. 1, an official adaptation of the 1995 hit featuring Govinda and Karisma Kapoor. On Saturday, the film’s team reunited for the wrap-up at the Bandra residence of producers, Vashu and Jackky Bhagnani.

Akshay Kumar arrived at 9.30 pm and stayed for an hour. “It was way past his bed time,” says a guest, adding that Riteish Deshmukh, who was accompanied by wife Genelia Deshmukh, turned heads with his new look—a silver-coloured buzz cut.

Meanwhile, Karisma got nostalgic while talking to Sara and the Dhawans about the original film. The party gained momentum closer to midnight, when the team cut a made-to-order cake, and went on till the early hours.

Bollywood music, mostly chartbusters from David’s films, played on the loop. “David shared his years of experience in the industry, while Varun and Sara dancing to 'Husn Hai Suhana' and the 'Bhel Puri' songs were definitely the highlights of the night,” the source added.

Varun’s elder brother, director Rohit Dhawan, Jawaani Jaaneman debutante Alaya F, writer-director Milap Zaveri and filmmaker Dinesh Vijan with wife Pramita were also among the attendees.
