As he sets to turn producer, Kunal Kemmu says he does not know the art of production very well

Kunal Kemmu, who started acting at a young age as a child actor, is all set to don the hat of a producer. He’ll soon be helming a feature film on the prominent Indian lawyer, late Ram Jethmalani. Talking about coming across his story and the journey of acquiring the life rights of the lawyer, Kunal says, “I got into production because of Mr Ram Jethmalani. We met a couple of lawyer friends in Delhi, and everybody talked about him like he was the superstar of law and I was intrigued. So, I began reading up on him and researching him. I realised that he has such an insane story and it needed to be told.”
Kunal shares that he had initially thought about venturing into production with a web series on his life. “While we were thinking about making a show on him, Ronnie Screwvala’s company got in touch with us and said that they wanted to produce a film. We turned producers because we’re greedy about the story of this gentleman. But honestly, I don’t know anything about production,” he says.
The Malang actor, however, has no plans of turning a full-time producer at least for time being. He says, “Production is a tough job. Sometimes, we don’t respect the producers enough. It’s mostly a very thankless job. It’s not like I’m shying away from the hard work but I honestly believe that I don’t know the art of production well.”
He adds, “I’m more equipped to be a writer and a director than a producer. But we’re going to give all that we have into this project. Maybe, we’ll continue producing if we enjoy the process.”
