Having made her mark in the industry with films like Gangs of Wasseypur (2012) and Masaan (2015), Richa Chadha admits that her career progress has been slow but steady. “I made a lot of mistakes in the initial years,” she says, adding, “I thought if I signed a film because the actor or director is well known, the film would work out but that didn’t always happen. I have learnt from my mistakes. Now, my quest is to do good and memorable work. I never wanted to be a slow motion glam doll. Finally, the kind of roles I deserve and like are happening. For me, it is about the process and journey, not the end result. My perseverance has worked for me in my career and I feel I need to be less trusting of people as they take advantage of my gullible nature.”

With a busy 2019, she says the audience will see more of her on-screen in 2020. “I have a special appearance in Panga and then Anubhav Sinha’s Abhi Toh Party Shuru Hui Hai should release. I am signing a film that talks about mental health and I have finished another film, which will be announced soon too,” she states.

This year, Richa challenged herself by attempting stand-up comedy in an episode of One Mic Stand, which was “nerve-wracking” for her. She says, “It was fun to make people laugh. I loved hanging out with the whole group of comedians on the show.”

She forayed into web shows with a successful show Inside Edge that launched its second season recently. From a moralistic woman, Richa’s character turns grey as she gets greedy for power. “People love the show and some of the reactions I have got is that season two is qualitatively better, which thrills me. OTT has been on a rise because earlier, TV shows had quality but today what if some people can’t relate to what is shown on TV? In cities, the youth is turning away from TV and enjoying digital content. It is bound to grow and prosper,” Richa opines.

Talking about her goals in life, Richa Chadha says she wants to grow as a creative person and is learning a new dance form — a tribal form of belly dance. “I love reading, writing and sketching. I have learnt how to ride a bike and I will put that to good use. I want to do good work but also live my life. Life is about having fun. I don’t want to get stuck in the bubble of the industry that exists between Bandra and Goregoan, resulting in me losing my mind over work,” she concludes.
