Kavita Awaasthi (HINDUSTAN TIMES; December 20, 2019)
She made her Bollywood debut with Love Sonia in 2018, and this year, actor Mrunal Thakur is basking in the success of two of her hit films — the Hrithik Roshan led Super 30, and Batla House, co-starring John Abraham. The actor now has a number of films in her kitty including Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra’s Toofan, co-starring Farhan Akhtar, a horror anthology film Ghost Stories, and the Hindi remake of the Telugu film, Jersey, starring Shahid Kapoor.
Ask her if she feels successful yet and she responds, “I was successful the day I started acting and began executing the ideas I had for my career. Recently, I was telling my 15-year-old brother that in school, we are taught how success is so important in life, but in life and in eight years of my acting career, including TV, I have learnt that true success is to learn to deal with failures. I think people are successful in their own minds, and in their own eyes. We don’t need anyone else’s appreciation. We should learn to love our own talent and ourselves.”
Citing the example of her spot boy, Mrunal explains, “Vinay has been with me since I began working and people would address him as Vinay. But ever since I started addressing him as Vinay ji, everyone around me on set has started calling him that. Your respect is in your own hands. I think, we are all successful in own right but we look up to others to validate it. Have faith in yourself.”
After a long career in television and now a movie career, Mrunal admits that the entertainment industry has its own pressures and problems. She reveals that she deals with some problems of her own. “Right now, I am facing the continuity problem. Managing looks between two movies is quite the task. The good kind of problem is that I am very busy and not able to give time to my family but I wanted to be so busy, too. I am too new in the industry,” she signs off.
