On Tuesday, Ekta Kapoor announced that Nia Sharma would be entering Naagin 4 and the actress insists that once you collaborate with TV’s Czarina, you go a notch ahead. She, however, is quick to add that though she is in the hissstory, she is not a ‘naagin’ but is already feeling the pressure of carrying the successful franchise forward.

The actress was voted third sexiest Asian women in 2016 and second sexiest the following year by a British newspaper. She stirred up controversies galore with her show Twisted for smoking, kissing a girl and killing another on screen.

“I was labelled a bold, vulgar wannabe. Today every actress on the web is doing the same thing. I’m glad I did it when it was still unique,” she smiles without remorse.

She points out that since she isn’t afraid of being wiped out, she has developed the habit of saying “no”, particularly to all the negative roles she was flooded with after that show. “I want to always be at the centre of things. When I come on screen, I want to create a buzz,” she asserts.

Last year, Vikram Bhatt had announced a film with her, but Nia informs that she is no longer a part of it. “It did not resonate with me, so I let it go. Another actress is doing it now and I’m glad,” she shrugs, adding that if some extraordinary project comes along that takes her to another league, she will take the plunge but until then she’s happy with TV.

Her only complaint is that producers replace lead actors overnight if a show flops. “So many things could've gone wrong. This culture is insulting and humiliating,” says Nia who was brought on board overnight for Ishq Mein Marjawan and feels for Aalisha Panwar whom she replaced. “My gain was her loss,” she sighs.

Naagin has brought the supernatural genre into its own on TV. The new entrant reveals that she was offered a similar show on a rival channel whose sole agenda was to create a franchise as big as Naagin.

So, what are her expectations from the show that elevated Mouni Roy’s career? “I am expecting my career to rocket to the moon and for me to become the most popular actor there is,” Nia laughs.
