Ayushmann Khurrana and Nushrat Bharucha, who are gearing up for the release of Raaj Shaandilyaa’s directorial debut, Dream Girl, shot for a special song on Tuesday. Shaking a leg on the recreated version of the popular Marathi ditty “Dhagala Lagli Kala”, Nushrat was an eyecatching Maharashtrian mulgi, while Ayushmann looked trendy in a red kurta teamed with a blue printed jacket, jeans and pink sneakers. The duo was joined by another actor Riteish Deshmukh, who features in a special appearance. The song is composed by the Meet Bros, penned by Kumaar, with Ganesh Acharya as choreographer.

Ask Riteish what brought him onboard and he says, “‘Dhagala’ is an all-time favourite dance number. The original featured the legendary Dada Kondke, so being a part of this song was motivation enough. Also, Ayushmann and Nushrat are fantastic actors and dancers and having admired their work I was happy to share the screen with them.”

Raaj shares that it was producer Ekta Kapoor’s idea to add a recreation to the film’s album. “I had done the chat show Yaaron Ki Baraat with Riteish. We have known each other for a long time. When I made this request, he immediately agreed,” he informs, adding that Jyotica Tangri has sung the Marathi parts while Meet Bros have sung the Hindi lines.

About the iconic song, Riteish points out that everyone who is born or brought up in Maharashtra has danced to it. “It can make even a non-dancer sway, that’s the power of the song. And every actor wants to do an out-and-out dance number. There have been great recreations of songs, some not so good ones as well. As long as due respect is given to a track in its recreated version, it is welcome. The younger generation is accepting and dancing to it and that’s great,” the actor exults.

While Ayushmann is garnering praise for his turn as Pooja in the film after the trailer released, Riteish had played a woman in Sangeeth Sivan’s 2006 comedy Apna Sapna Money Money. Did he give his National Award-winning co-star any advice on how to play a woman perfectly? “Sania from Apna Sapna Money Money was an enjoyable character to play. I have no advice for Ayushmann as he is a great performer himself and his Pooja has already become extremely popular. In fact, I fear that people might love Pooja so much that no one would want to talk to Ayushmann anymore,” Riteish concludes on a light note.
