Tollywood was always on Ruhi Singh’s wishlist, but little did she know that her debut Telugu film would also pave way for her foray into Hollywood! Having bagged an important role in Vishnu Manchu’s Hollywood crossover film, directed by Jeffrey Gee Chin, the former Miss India is “thrilled to bits”. “I’m super excited to be making my debut in the Telugu film industry with such a novel project. It is the perfect fusion of Indian and American talent with a great script and a wonderful star cast. The makers wanted someone who is young and fresh and I too felt this was the perfect opportunity to start my career here,” says Ruhi, talking about the English-Telugu-Hindi film, which also stars Kajal Aggarwal.
The Calendar Girls and Bongu star, who is currently shooting for the film in Hyderabad, is busy learning Telugu to get into the skin of her character. “I’m training to speak Telugu and Tamil to connect better with the people in the South and the roles that come my way,” shares the actress.
Prod Ruhi about her role, and she remains tight-lipped, but reveals that she is a “key part” of the film, which is touted to be a gripping relationship drama based on a true story. “I play a girl-next-door; someone who everyone can connect with. My character is this modern, young girl who is full of spunk,” she shares, excitedly.
A woman of many talents, Ruhi is trained in Kathak, certified in Kung Fu and is undergoing training in Shaolin Kung Fu and kickboxing. “I am proud to say that I am one of the fittest girls on the block right now. I can also belly dance and pole dance. It’s my dream to do a glamorous action film where I can show off all these skills,” she says.
