He is known to be a perfectionist, who gives his all to every film he produces or directs. And, Malaal has been no different for Sanjay Leela Bhansali (SLB), who is producing the movie. He and director Mangesh Hadawale made as many as 37 changes in the film’s script, until they were confident about it.
Mangesh says, “I used to narrate the script to sir and later, he would supervise and add his inputs. I worked on multiple drafts, and the first version that I narrated to him was the 17th or 18th cut. However, the shoot started after the 37th draft.”
About the kind of changes that were incorporated in the script, he explains, “We wanted to add a lot of emotions in the script and come up with a dramatic skeleton sketch. Sanjay sir would listen to every draft carefully and then ask me to add the next set of scenes if he was okay with it, or suggest changes. We wanted to give a larger-than-life effect to this story.”
The film, which launches Sharmin Segal and Meezaan, also marks the first collaboration between Bhansali Productions and T-Series.
Malaal, presented by Gulshan Kumar and Sanjay Leela Bhansali, is produced by Sanjay Leela Bhansali, Bhushan Kumar, Mahaveer Jain and Krishan Kumar. The film releases on July 5.
