Today, Saif Ali Khan and his debutante co-star, Pooja Bedi’s daughter Alaia F, kick off the shoot of Nitin Kakar’s upcoming directorial, Jawaani Jaaneman, in London. The film will be shot entirely in the city over a 45-day schedule.
“I have been meeting Saif every day. Even though he is on a family holiday, he has been taking out a couple of hours a day for the film. Alaia has been doing readings with Nitin and we are happy with her progress. She will start shooting a few days later but Nitin wanted her to be there well in advance to get used to a film set,” Jay Shewakramani, who is producing the film with Jackky and Vashu Bhagnani, reveals.
He goes on to add that the film’s prep has taken them all over town. “In the film, Saif’s character lives in a specific kind of a house and we didn’t find anything suitable during the first recce. We got in touch with Vashu Bhagnani ji and on the last day, we chanced upon the ideal location after seeing around 50-55 houses,” he informed.
While the film’s title is strongly reminiscent of the foot-tapping Namak Halal, filmed on Parveen Babi, the filmmaker says, “It’s about Saif’s character, for whom jawaani is his jaaneman, hence the title.” And how are they tackling the father-daughter equation, which has routinely made its way to the big screen over the years? Agreeing that it’s a universal theme, Jay explains, “Saif has ensured that Alaia is extremely comfortable at work. They have formed a great equation in the course of several readings. It will reflect naturally on screen.” On Sunday the onscreen father-daughter jodi was spotted cheering for India from the stands during the World Cup match against Pakistan.
