Ajay Devgn’s father, Veeru Devgan, who is counted among Bollywood’s veteran action directors, passed away yesterday morning at Surya Hospital in Santacruz where he was admitted as his health deteriorated. The final rites were held yesterday at 6 pm in the crematorium at Vile Parle. Devgan had choreographed stunts of over 80 films, including movies like Mr Natwarlal (1979), Kranti (1981), Himmatwala (1983), Shahenshah (1988), Tridev (1989) and Phool Aur Kaante (1991) among others. He had also directed Ajay in the film Hindustan Ki Kasam, which also featured Amitabh Bachchan, Manisha Koirala and Sushmita Sen.

Sanjay Dutt, Sunny and Bobby Deol dropped in at the actor's Juhu residence to pay their respects. Sham Kaushal, Vicky Kaushal’s dad, who is also an action director, wrote a heartfelt post on twitter. He wrote, “RIP Veeru Devgan ji. Just came to know about this sad news. As an Action Director always ahead of his times & as human being par excellence. I became a stuntman with his blessings on 8th August, 1980 as he signed my application to become a stuntman and made me part of his team. My first day of shoot as a stuntman, stunt double and my first outdoor shoot was under him. He fed me in his house when I did not have anything to eat. Can’t help crying while writing this (sic).” Ranvir Shorey tweeted, “@ajaydevgn Heartfelt condolences to you and the family. He was a kind, gentle and generous man. RIP.” South actor Sidharth, too, reached out to the actor over social media and wrote, “Deepest condolences and strength to @ajaydevgn and his family. Prayers and respects to #VeeruDevgan sir, a stellar veteran stunt choreographer. R.I.P.”
