Rakul Preet Singh and Ajay Devgn
Chaya Unnikrishnan (DNA; May 8, 2019)

Her last Bollywood outing, Aiyaary (2018), may not have connected with the audience, but now Rakul Preet Singh is definitely grabbing attention, thanks  to her glamour and sizzling chemistry with Ajay Devgn in the upcoming film, De De Pyaar De. The trailer of the movie, which is releasing next week, has already got people talking about the peculiar story of a 50-year-old man falling in love with a 26-year-old girl. “It’s such a fun role. It was the quirky storyline that interested me. People are going to connect with it, as it is relevant in today’s times. There are so many issues happening around us, it is about picking up one and making a film. Here, it is told in a humourous way,” she says.

IT’S ALL ABOUT LOVE
Does she know anybody who has fallen in love with an older guy? “Yes, one of my close friends got married two years ago to a guy who is one year older than her father. Love is about making the right connection, it has nothing to do with age difference. I am happy for the two people who are in love, they complement each other. Otherwise, all you see around you is people being dishonest, or unfaithful,” she says.

Has she ever fallen in love?  “No, I have been waiting for a while. Even my parents have started saying, keep some time for yourself, find somebody,” she smiles, adding that she is a true believer of love. “The moment I talk about it, my eyes light up. I am not the kind of person who feels if you are busy working, you have no time for romance. If you are with the right person, it will enhance your personality and happiness,” she says dreamily.

As for her chemistry with Ajay, she gives the credit to the superstar. “Ajay is a warm person, he is so grounded. He is a seasoned actor, but he never made me feel that I am relatively new. Same with Tabu m’am. That is why you see the chemistry,” says the pretty actress. Did she get pranked by the senior stars, especially Ajay? “No, I told him that I had heard about him playing pranks and since I know about it, he should take me in his team. That way I saved myself. He told me stories about the pranks he has played and I was glad I was not caught in them,” she laughs.

VADDI SHARABAN IS A TEETOTALLER
Besides the trailer that has got an overwhelming response, the song Vaddi Sharaban, picturised on her and the Golmaal actor has topped the popularity charts.

Ironically, Rakul is a teetotaller in real life! “Luv Ranjan (producer) would say, ‘Maine yeh gaana barbaad kiya tum pe’ and order soft drinks and water for me. But, I had a blast shooting for the song, I loved the beats,” enthuses the 28-year-old, who will be seen next in Marjaavaan in which she reunites with Sidharth Malhotra. “It is fun to work with someone you get along well with. Sidharth and I hit it off during Aiyaary because we both are from Delhi. He is grounded and fun to work with. I think that equation definitely shows on screen.”

DEALING WITH FAILURE
Talking about her last release, how did she cope with its failure? “Success and failure are a part of life. Failures, in fact, are more important than success because they give you a reality check. I celebrate every Friday because I am getting to do what I love the most. I disconnect after the film is shot. I leave it to the universe and I am not saying this for the sake of it because I am a spiritual person,” she signs off.
