After assisting Tony D’souza on the 2013 actioner Boss, which was headlined by Akshay Kumar, the late actress Simple Kapadia’s son Karan is sharing screen space with the actor for a special number in his debut, Blank. The Behzad Khambata-directed action thriller revolves around the life of a suicide bomber, which is essayed by the debutant. In keeping with the film’s title, Karan was spotted arriving for its trailer launch last week with his face covered.
The duo who is related through Twinkle Khanna—Akshay’s actress-turned-author wife is Karan’s cousin—shot for the high-energy number, which is composed by Arko, on Monday at a suburban studio. Confirming the news, Akshay told Mirror, “Karan has chosen an unconventional route for his debut and I am extremely proud of him. Doing this song is my way of wishing him all the best.” B Praak, who has lent his voice to “Teri Mitti” from a recently released historical-drama featuring Akshay, has given playback for the new song.
Akshay goes on to add that he is impressed by the debutant, saying, “The boy has genuine acting skills. I first saw the spark in a short film that he did (Crescendo, 2014) which even went to the Cannes Film Festival. With Blank, Karan has gone several notches up in terms of acting and performance.”
In an earlier interview to Mirror (December 27, 2017), Karan had revealed that his actress-aunt Dimple Kapadia, with whom he lives, and Twinkle were initially surprised when he told them about his acting aspirations. “They eventually understood that having grown up around their film sets as a child, it was inevitable that I’d want to follow in their footsteps. They pointed out the risks involved and told me that I should be ready to work hard… they have been supportive and helped me get ready for the road ahead,” Karan had said.
After learning acting at the Jeff Goldberg Studio, he trained in horse-riding. A six-month course in martial arts followed in Bangkok. Blank, produced by Dr Shrikant Bhasi, Nishant Pitti, Tony D’souza and Vishal Rana, als o features Sunny Deol in a pivotal role.
