Kriti Sanon and Kartik Aaryan, who play the leads in debutante director Laxman Utekar’s Luka Chuppi, are gearing up to bring back a ’90s chartbuster. The actor-duo, along with co-star Pankaj Tripathi, shot for a recreated version of “Yeh Khabar Chhapva Do” at a Vasai studio on Monday and Tuesday. The original song was picturised on Akshay Kumar and Urmila Matondkar and was a part of their 1997 romance-actioner, Aflatoon.
A source from the sets says, “Luka Chuppi is set in Mathura with Kartik playing a television reporter, the quintessential good boy every girl wants to take home to mummy. Kriti, is a local girl, who had gone to Delhi to study but has since returned to her home town. The entire film has been shot in the North Indian city. But like the original song, the new version has been filmed at a lot of interesting locations in and around Mumbai. Vijay Ganguly is the dance director. The song also features 150 dancers matching steps with Kriti, Kartik and Pankaj. The latter is the comic element.”
The Dinesh Vijan production will release on March 1. The original song was composed by the hit ’90s duo, Dilip Sen and Sameer Sen, with vocals by Lalit Sen and Shweta Shetty and lyrics by Anand Bakshi. The film had Akshay in a double role—as Raja, a wastrel in pursuit of easy money and Rocky, a ruthless criminal—and Urmila, as his love interest.
