While Kajol’s role as actor-filmmaker husband’s screen wife in Tanhaji - The Unsung Warrior has been kept strictly under wraps, Mirror has learnt that the actress has been quietly shooting at Mumbai’s Film City studio. Recently, she shot for a lavishly-mounted song on a set constructed specially for the sequence, complete with hundreds of diyas and elaborate rangolis.

A source close to the period drama reveals, “The song was shot over a week in the last week of December and is a part of the climax. It sees Kajol dressed in a traditional Maharashtrian outfit from the 17th century, inside her onscreen home. It has her thinking about her relationship with her warrior husband and a certain situation the couple is faced with at the time. Although Ajay won’t feature in the number, there are glimpses of their past moments together.”

According to the source, Kajol, who is half-Maharashtrian (from her actress-mother Tanuja’s side), has been shooting for the film, which required a basic understanding of the language and other traditional elements, with effortless ease. “The dance number accentuates her character’s emotional state and focuses on her facial expressions,” the source added.

The period-drama which marks the directorial debut of Om Raut, reunites Ajay and Kajol on screen after nine years. Their last film together was Toonpur Ka Superrhero in 2010. The couple has been paired together earlier in films like Goondaraj and Hulchul (1995), Ishq (1997), Pyar To Hona Hi Tha (1998) and Raju Chacha (2000), among others. Mirror had earlier reported (October 15, 2018) that the film, which is based on the life of Tanaji Malusare, a 17th-century Maharashtrian military leader in the Maratha empire, features Saif Ali Khan in a negative role.
