After kicking up a storm with a bridal shower thrown by close friends in New York last weekend, bride-to-be Priyanka Chopra inadvertently walked into another one. Days after the ceremony, netizens noted that PeeCee had chosen a feathered creation from the designer label Marchesa for the occasion, which is owned by disgraced Hollywood moghul Harvey Weinstein’s ex-wife, Georgina Chapman.

While it soon led to backlash, Priyanka was prompt in addressing the issue. Turns out, the 36-year-old actress had intentionally chosen to wear Marchesa to support her longtime friend and designer, who divorced Weinstein soon after a series of sexual harassment against him kicked off the #MeToo storm in Hollywood.

The desi girl, who is tying the knot with American singer-songwriter Nick Jonas in December, was quoted as saying to an American publication that Chapman should not suffer for the fault of her ex-husband, calling the decision to wear the gown as “women supporting women”.

“Georgina’s a friend of mine… And it’s not her fault. I don’t think it’s right to take it out on a self made woman what somebody in her life did. That’s the wrong attitude. I’ve known her for years, and that was a beautiful gown, and deserved to be worn by a bride-to-be. It made me feel like a princess. It was the right choice,” Chopra asserted.
