Ani...Dr. Kashinath Ghanekar is the biopic of the legendary superstar of Marathi theatre who ushered in a new era and revived the popularity of the plays. This is a 2 hours 39 minutes long film but doesn’t bore even for a second. It keeps the audiences captivated as they relive the bygone era and the highs and lows in the life of the superstar. In times of Sanju when the attempt is to whitewash, Ani...Dr. Kashinath Ghanekar makes no such attempts. It highlights the flaws of the protagonist and how he went horribly wrong in certain areas. The entertaining moments are plenty and one can feel and sense why Dr Ghanekar became such a big name. On the flipside, there are too many subplots which affect the film in the second half. Few developments happen suddenly and are not developed properly, I guess to control the film’s duration. Lastly, the VFX is not upto the mark but that can be understood, considering the budget constraints. Subodh Bhave plays the lead role and he goes on another level with this film. This is no easy part but he pulls it off so convincingly. Nandita Dhuri gets to play an understanding and progressive character and she is sure to win hearts. Vaidehi Parshurami is charming and gets her act right. Sonali Kulkarni leaves a huge mark as Sulochana. Sumeet Raghavan is fine as Dr Ghanekar’s rival Dr Shriram Lagoo. Others also put in their best effort. Ani...Dr. Kashinath Ghanekar is running successfully in Maharashtra and has got limited shows outside the state as well. With Thugs Of Hindostan underperforming and Ani...Dr. Kashinath Ghanekar doing blockbuster business, the shows of the latter are bound to increase. Go for it if you have access to it…highly recommended!
