Anurag Kashyap is among the few directors in Bollywood, who are known for their unique style of filmmaking. Be it his movies — Dev D, Black Friday, The Gangs Of Wasseypur franchise — or the recent web-series, Sacred Games, they have all been real, edgy and gripping. Manmarziyaan will see him returning to the space of a musical love story after Dev D.
Anurag, who is known to shoot films at real locations, shot Manmarziyaan, too, in his signature guerrilla style, with a skeleton crew and hidden cameras. Several scenes in the film have been picturised in the crowded bylanes of Amritsar, its local eateries and popular tourist spot in Kashmir like the Thajiwas glacier.
Anurag says, “I prefer making my stories look and sound believable. And that’s why I shoot at real locations. I also never work with a fixed script, as it hampers eliciting real, spontaneous reactions. We shot Manmarziyaan on crowded streets and busy areas with hidden cameras and sound equipment. I’ve been lucky that my cast and crew have always put their faith in me.”
