Rohit Shetty
Hiren Kotwani (DNA; August 27, 2018)

There is one aspect of Rohit Shetty’s personality that isn’t known to most people. But those who know him are aware that the maker of superhits like Chennai Express and the Golmaal franchise has always supported causes that he believes in. Besides standing by innumerable technicians and stuntmen, who do the more dangerous jobs, but are less privileged than those in the forefront, the Golmaal Again maker has also actively supported cancer patients, education of the girl child. Recently, he extended his support to the flood-affected people of God’s Own Country.

Rohit was in Argentina shooting for the reality adventure TV show, Khatron Ke Khiladi when he first heard the news of the devastating floods. Moved by the plight of the afflicted and hearing about the extensive damage that followed the continuous downpour, the filmmaker decided to do his bit. One of the first things he did on his return to Mumbai was to make a contribution of Rs 21 lakh, to the Kerala Chief Minister’s Distress Relief Fund.

A source said, “For a few years now, Rohit has been actively supporting cancer patients and girls’ education. His office stays in touch with certain office-bearers from charitable organisations and hospitals who treat the less-privileged. He asks his trusted team to make him aware of how much money is needed to help patients who can’t afford treatments. The same holds true for education of children. Of course, the latest cause he chose to associate with is the Kerala flood relief work. The filmmaker knew he had to extend his support to those affected in his own way. He did that quietly without letting anyone know.”
