Mumbai: The BMC has sent notice to actor Priyanka Chopra, owner of a commercial premise at Oshiwara in Andheri (West), for unauthorized construction in the space that she has rented out and her adjoining office.

The civic body said it received five complaints from a corporator and other people who visited the Charisma Beauty Spa and Salon. They alleged illegal alterations in the spa, including putting in an unauthorized mezzanine floor. The BMC found the violations during a check.

They also found infringements while check the adjoining premise, which is used as an office by the Chopra family, at Vastu Precinct building. The BMC has sent two separate notices to the owner and occupant of both the premises.

Manik Soni, who manages the spa, told the BMC he had took the premise on rent after entering into an agreement with Chopra and her mother. When TOI reached out for a reaction, they promised one but did not get back.

Among the violations found on both premises were unauthorized full-height partitions using ply-sheet and glass walls to make cabins, unauthorized amalgamations, and illegal construction of a mezzanine floor.

The notice asks that the illegal alterations be removed and the original structure according to the BMC’s sanctioned plan in June 2013 be restored, or BMC will demolish the structure after a month. The actor has the option of regularizing some of the irregularities after paying a penalty.

“We earlier wrote, asking them to regularize the unauthorized changes after paying the penalty and remove the other illegal changes which cannot be approved. But they didn’t bother to pay any attention after which we sent them the notice under the Maharashtra Regional Town Planning Act (MRTP). If they fail to reply again, we will demolish the illegal constructions at both the premises,” said a senior BMC official.
