Mumbai: A television actor allegedly involved in a car crash in Andheri (west) was arrested on Saturday. The police said that the actor, Siddharth Shukla (37), was driving the BMW X5 when the accident took place in Oshiwara around 6 pm. The vehicle collided with three other cars in front of it before it ran over the median that divides the two carriageways of the street, near the Shreeji Junction, the police said.

Shukla, of TV serial Balika Vadhu fame, did not suffer any injury but three people in the others cars sustained minor injuries and were taken to hospital but did not require hospitalization.

The police said that Shukla was on his way home at Evershine Complex, also in Oshwara, when he lost control of the car and went on to first hit an Innova. This had a cascading effect as the Innova in turn got pushed and rammed into two other cars. “After hitting the three cars, the actor’s car hit the divider and was parked precariously over the concrete median,” said an officer from Oshiwara police station.

The police quote eyewitnesses as saying that the “actor who driving his BMW X5 appeared quite shaken after the accident”.

Senior inspector of Oshiwara police station, Shailesh Pasalwar, said that the actor was “not drunk when the accident took place”. He said they arrested the actor and booked him for endangering life, rash and negligent driving.

Soon after the accident, Lokhandwala Oshiwara Citizen’s Association put out a tweet: “Major accident at Shreeji restaurant junction Oshiwara Andheri west. Kindly avoid Link road from Adarsh Nagar junction. Three people injured with minor injuries”.

Sidharth, who made his TV debut in 2008, has worked in Khatron Ke Khiladi and Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa. He also acted in Karan Johar’s Bollywood film Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhaniya. He was last seen in Dil Se Dil Tak.
