The actor returns to production with a Telugu hit; Ali Fazal to play his son
Natasha Coutinho (MUMBAI MIRROR; May 14, 2018)
Sanjay Dutt is returning to production after seven years with a remake
of the 2010 Telugu hit Prasthanam. He also plays the lead, alongside Ali
Fazal as his son and Amyra Dastur as Ali’s love interest. The original
director, Deva Katta, is back to helm it, with certain changes in the
script as he’s catering to a pan-India audience. The political drama
whose title has also been retained with a small change in the spelling
—it’s Prasthaanam now — goes on the floors in the first week of June in
Mumbai.
Dutt has earlier collaborated with Sanjay Gupta on the action-thriller
Zinda (2006) as production-presenter, was the associate producer on
Gupta’s Shootout At Lokhandwala (2007), based on a real-life gun battle
between gangsters and the Mumbai police, and on Dus Kahaniyaan, an
anthology of 10 shorts, in the same year. He also produced the David
Dhawan-directed Rascals, in 2011. Getting back to his new project, the
original featured Sai Kumar as lead with Sharvanand as his son and
exposed the nexus between netas and businessmen. It was a money-spinner
down South and bagged three Filmfare awards. A spokesperson from
Sanjay’s production house confirmed the news.
