Ravi Jadhav’s Marathi film ‘Nude: Chitra’ has run into a controversy once again. The film, which shot to fame when it was dropped from the International Film Festival of India 2017 even after it was approved by the IFFI jury, has now been accused by script writer Manisha Kulshreshtha of being an “unauthorised adaptation” of her story ‘Kalindi’.
Following the accusation of copyright infringement, the film’s release on April 27 was stayed by Delhi’s Tis Hazari court on April 5. The court will hear the matter again on April19. The CBFC had cleared the film and granted it an ‘A’ certificate in January this year. The ex-parte interim injunction was granted in a suit filed by Kulshreshtha and the publisher who exhibited the official trailer of the film to the court to emphasise that “the movie is an unauthorised adaptation of the story ‘Kalindi’.” The counsels arguing on Kulshreshtha’s behalf are said to have pointed out “various similarities” between the story ‘Kalindi’ and the film “Nude: Chitra”.
The writer claimed the film is a “substantial adaptation, with the same story line, plot, form and manner of expression, of her Hindi story ‘Kaindi.’
