Ajay Devgn

Even though most biopics are crafted to celebrate the valour of the protagonists, ones on historical figures are becoming challenging to make in an increasingly over-sensitive society. Soon after Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Padmaavat attracted the wrath of fringe groups owing to its portrayal of Rajput queen, Rani Padmavati, Kangana Ranaut’s Manikarnika: The Queen Of Jhansi also came in the eye of the storm for “historically tampering” with facts. Given the current circumstances, Ajay Devgn, set to bring forth a biopic on Tanaji Malusare, a general in Chatrapati Shivaji’s army, is evidently taking precautions.

Should his team adhere to “historical facts”, Devgn foresees no infringement from political groups. “If you can stick to reality, making a biopic should not be an issue,” Devgn tells mid-day of his film, Taanaji: The Unsung Warrior.

He would be willing to discuss any matter that may be a bone of contention, he says. “If one is willing to sit across the table and discuss concerns, both parties can arrive at a solution. Nobody likes to be associated with controversies, and it isn’t a good situation that the industry finds itself in, but such matters can be handled,” says the actor, quick to add that often, certain groups attempt to create a stir without substantial reason.
