Earlier buzz was that Anushka Sharma will headline the cast of Jasmine, which deals with the subject of surrogacy. However, now Aishwarya Rai Bachchan’s name has come to the fore. Writer duo Siddharth and Garima, of Toilet: Ek Prem Katha (TEPK) and Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-Leela, turn directors with the movie, which is being co-produced by Prernaa Arora and Shree Narayan Singh, director of TEPK.

Film facts
Garima says, “We have been researching on surrogacy for nearly four years. Films have been made on it in the past, but our story is based on the people we’ve met, including the surrogates and their families. It is not going to be preachy, but entertaining.”

Quirky character
The actress will have a meaty role to bite into.Garima says, “The character is very quirky. Having said that, I must add that it also deals with both social and emotional issues around the subject of surrogacy. The woman doesn’t know about motherhood and what happens after that. You must’ve heard the saying that it is a child that gives birth to a mother, so the film is based on that thought.”

With Ash’s name in the fray, there is much excitement around Jasmine. Garima says, “Nothing has been finalised as yet, but we are very keen to have her in our film.”
