In the wake of the controversy against Bhansali's Padmavati, Kamal Haasan has come out in support of the film's leading lady, Deepika Padukone, saying that he wants her head to be saved.

"I want Ms Deepika's head... saved. Respect it more than her body. Even more her freedom. Do not deny her that," Haasan put out a tweet on Tuesday, adding. "Many communities have opposed my films. Extremism in any debate is deplorable. Wake up cerebral India. Time to think. We've said enough. Listen Ma Bharat."

While several fringe groups as well as Chief Ministers have called for a ban on the period drama, the CBFC, on Tuesday, refused the makers' request to expedite the film's review process citing "technical issues".
