Parineeti Chopra

If you look at her previous choice of films, Golmaal Again seems an unusual pick for Parineeti Chopra. The actor, on her part, says she gave her nod to the Rohit Shetty-directed comedy as it was a role she could sink her teeth into. “Tabu Ma’am and I are the backbone of this movie. Once Rohit narrated the script to me, I realised we are way too necessary to the story.”

Chopra also agrees that the comic caper offered her a chance to showcase her flair for comedy — an opportunity that, she feels, is unfortunately rare for female actors in Bollywood. “Women are not used in humour as much as men. The comedy genre belongs to men. I want to change that. If I can be pompous, I would go to the extent of saying that I can do it because I live to be funny.”

One may assume that after a string of clutter-breaking roles, she is playing it safe with a masala entertainer. But Chopra says, “Golmaal series is not designed to be relevant. This is a universe of its own. The numbers have a science behind it. Families want to watch this film. I see the film as an opportunity to reach more people. Doing these parts will allow me mass accessibility.”
