The actress will have to skip shows, thanks to brand commitments; PS: Does this mean there won’t be a Bollywood presence at NYFW this year?

Becoming the only Indian actress to be invited to the New York Fashion Week (NYFW) should’ve been the latest in the line of triumphs for actress Athiya Shetty. Post-Mubarakan, she signed on a jewellery and a beauty brand.
But it is her brand commitments that will force her to give the NYFW a miss this year. Sounding naturally disappointed, she confirms, “I had initially planned to travel and attend NY Fashion Week, but the dates were clashing with brand shoots, so I will not be going.”
It’s a double bummer for the actress, as she has also effectively passed up a chance to meet Selena Gomez. “I love her,” says Athiya, adding, “She’s such a cool singer and I also find her extremely beautiful. She is such an inspiration to all the young girls out there.”
In an earlier interview with After Hrs, the actress told us that she finds the residents of the Big Apple personality-driven. “I love New York!” she admits, “I love the way people are so effortless, embracing their personalities and individuality. They wear the clothes, and don’t let the clothes wear them. Everyone is so unique and artistic.”
Does she see herself as a fashionista? “I don’t know, but, yes, it’s all because of my team that I look the way I do. For me, fashion is all about being comfortable and being confident in your skin,” she concludes.
FULL HOUSE LAST SEASON
Bollywood divas were in attendance last season with everyone from Priyanka Chopra and Deepika Padukone to Sunny Leone and Jacqueline Fernandez making an appearance at the NYFW.
