Emraan Hashmi, who has diverted his energy to rein vent himself as an actor, has also decided to back a couple of films as a producer. BT has learnt that one of the films he plans to produce and act in is based on a massive education scam being run in the country.

Though Emraan, who is expected to play the mastermind in the film, chose to remain tight-lipped about the plot, he confirmed that he is indeed working out the modalities of the project which will be helmed by writer-director Soumik Sen, who last directed Gulaab Gang with Madhuri Dixit-Nene and Juhi Chawla.

“I can see that the word spreads. So yeah, that's one of the scripts I'm reading. We're in the midst of finalising the details. It's an important move to go beyond acting in a film. It has nothing to do with money, but it's the desire to nurture a seed and watch it grow into a tree. As an actor, you are in a confined space, but as a producer, you can do so much more. I want to get as close to a film as possible and be involved with as many elements of filmmaking. Making films is always a risk, but it's worth it. You have to leave these things to chance and engage with the content as much as possible,“ Emraan said when we met him last month and prodded him about his plans to back the film in question, apart from a few others, as a producer and actor.

This yet-to-be-titled film is said to have room for two leading ladies who are yet to be finalised. We tried reaching out to co-producer Tanuj Garg for his inputs, but he didn't respond to our queries till we went to press.
