Even as wife Mira Rajput chided him for overexerting himself despite an injury, Shahid Kapoor remained his dedicated self at a recently held awards ceremony in New York. The actor had suffered an injury while shooting an action scene for Padmavati. It had got better with medication and rest, but the injury resurfaced and Kapoor suffered the ankle injury on the first day of rehearsals for his dance performance.

A source tells mid-day that he was rushed to the emergency room and the doctors suggested that he rests. “Since it was a ligament tear, Shahid was told not to perform. But he didn’t want to go back on his word. He made his act compact and less exerting. It was smartly choreographed. Some songs were also dropped,” says the source.

Kapoor, who bagged the best actor award for Udta Punjab, danced to the chartbusters Gandi Baat, Saree Ke Fall Sa, Bismil, Nagada, Dhan Te Nan, etc. “He was on painkillers for the entire day,” says the source.
