Director Umesh Shukla’s next project 102 Not Out features the Big B, Amitabh Bachchan, as a 102-year-old man, who wants to break the current world record of longevity. Actor Rishi Kapoor plays his 75-year old son in the film.
The two actors underwent extensive rehearsals to get comfortable with one another as the father-and-son duo.
Prosthetics were kept to bare minimum during these sessions. Umesh wanted them both to master the body language and speech patterns of the peculiar and aging parent-child pair without the props or prosthetics. Umesh reveals the details of the project, “In the film, there is a man in China who is 118 years old, and Amitji’s character wants to break his record as the oldest living man, and live to be 120 years of age.”
Umesh describes the film as funny and yet extremely sad. The film is written by Saumya Joshi, who is Raj Kumar Hirani’s Munnabhai series writer Abhijat Joshi’s brother. “Just like the film OMG — Oh My God!, 102 Not Out is also based on a very successful Gujarati play. I guess my connection with theatre refuses to die,” says Umesh.
