The Sunday schedule of Pa Ranjith's Kaala Karikaalan kicked off at 10 am in SoBo and made for a particularly curious sight when it was headed to Marine Drive for two sequences. Dressed in all-black and unusually at ease (for a superstar) in full public view, Ranjith's leading man Rajinikanth was being escorted under a pink umbrella along the promenade even as tankers took position for a rain sequence. And while his bodyguards were shooing onlookers and shutterbugs away, the Thalaiva was gracious enough to tell the security detail off so the Mirror photographer could get the perfect shot.


A part of the bridge near Marine Drive was cordoned off for a shot that had Rajini walk with what looked like an imposing dagger in one hand and the end of his lungi in the other.

The 66-year-old actor had landed in Mumbai over a week ago to kick off the first schedule of the Tamil-Telugu thriller. Last week, his fans flocked to the film's set in Grant Road, where the team canned an outdoor sequence. He plays a man from Dharavi in the film while Huma Qureshi plays his love interest.
