In Hollywood films, Indian
characters are more often than not portrayed in a certain manner - be it
in terms of their accent or mannerisms. We hear, Ali Fazal, who will be
seen in the lead role opposite Judi Dench in Stephen Frears' Hollywood
film, Victoria & Abdul, ensured that his character is an exception to this norm. A source
revealed, “It is common for Indians to be typecast in international
films, but Ali ensured that the accent, pronunciation and other details
in the script are displayed rightly on the screen.“
The actor added, “We worked together and it was a collaborative effort. I wanted to keep my character as authentic as possible.“
