Academy Award and Golden Globe-winning actress Goldie Hawn and Bollywood actress-reality show judge-author Shilpa Shetty were supposed to meet through a common friend two years ago. The plan didn’t materialise but the two connected over the phone. “During the time, I was invited for Goldie’s charity dinner in London but I couldn’t make it. This time we were both in London for work at the same time and made sure we met in person,” a delighted Shilpa told Mirror from the Queen’s City. She had taken off with husband Raj Kundra and son Viaan last week for a South Asian charity gala in association with Orphan Aid. Over the weekend, the couple celebrated with a family brunch during which they binged on waffles, followed by a trip to the Chessington Zoo with their son.

On Wednesday, the actress met Goldie, who is the mother of Hollywood star Kate Hudson, at a charity gala. The American actress was speaking about the work of the Hawn Foundation, a non-profit organisation which offers youth education programmes. “I had just hosted my first charity gala. Goldie has been doing it for decades and it was great to get her perspective. We spent a lot of time together discussing common interests, charity and mutual friends. Her speech touched my soul. I told her afterwards that we were both very similar in many ways, it was a soul connect,” Shilpa exulted.

The 41-year-old-actress has extended an invite to Goldie to visit India. The blonde beauty was in the country in 2009 during which she performed the Ganga aarti. She has described India as the most fascinating land she had ever visited and her new-found friend can’t wait to host her in Mumbai. “She will let me know when she’s planning a visit. Goldie is very spiritual and loves coming to India to get reconnected with her religious side,” Shilpa pointed out, adding that the 71-year-old actress, like her, is into yoga and believes it aligns the body, mind and soul. “That’s another reason why we feel so connected.”
