Mirror has learnt that writer-director Ribhu Dasgupta (inset) is gearing up to follow up his Vidya Balan, Amitabh Bachchan and Nawazuddin Siddiqui-starrer Te3n with a woman-centric drama based on real events.
The filmmaker, was in Dubai recently to meet 44-year-old Mumbaikar Zainab Fawad to discuss her gritty journey from India to Pakistan, with the ongoing uncertain layover in the Gulf country. Zainab readily agreed when the makers proposed a film on her story and gave her consent to the project. Later, the trio also interacted with journalists who have been following Zainab’s life closely.
“News reports that chronicled Zainab’s three-year fight to reunite with her twin sons after her husband sent them away to Pakistan while continuing to subject her to physical and mental abuse in Dubai, are the real inspiration behind the film. But it will also draw from the lives of several women who have had to deal with separation due to Indo-Pak conflicts,” a source close to the development told Mirror, pointing out that while Zainab and her four-year-old sons, Mustafa and Muzzamil, are together, Dubai authorities are yet to release her passport. The children, both Indian nationals, had been in Pakistan since April 2014 and Zainab had given up hope of seeing them again given the ongoing Indo-Pak strife.
“The crew has completed a recce in Dubai and the film will be shot in real-life locations. Zainab, who is originally from Gujarat, had struck up a romance with her Pakistani-ex in Dubai with the couple subsequently tying the knot in Karachi in 2007. The makers are keen to incorporate a long timeline to keep the story as authentic as possible,” the source adds.
A leading Bollywood actress who the makers believe can be transformed into a spitting image of Zainab is presently in talks for the part. Producer Sam Fernandes who is backing the project with Rajat Srivastava, confirmed the news. The script is presently being developed.
