BAAHUBALI (Hindi) had a re - run on a wide release but was a bit of disaster but this makes no difference to BAAHUBALI Part 2 as that film is hugely awaited in Hindi as well as other languages. A rerun of a film which has been shown on television many times and to huge audiences when on peak time is not going to find an audience in theatres. The ticket rates are very high so there is no repeat audience for any blockbuster be it the biggest of recent times. Re - runs did good business until the mid nineties but when ticket prices started increasing heavily from 1994 onwards this audience died for most films barring exceptions like HUM AAPKE HAI KOUN and GADAR - EK PREM KATHA
BAAHUBALI (Hindi) in its re-run collected around 40-50 lakhs nett on day one and there were even shows cancelled due to lack of audience. But this was still much better than the other new Hindi releases.
There were six new releases which hit the screens BAAZI ZINDAGI KI, BLUE MOUNTAINS, KEHKASHAN, LAALI KI SHAADI MEIN LAADDOO DEEWANA, MIRZA JUULIET and MUKTI BHAWAN.
The only two which managed to get over 10 lakhs nett were LAALI KI SHAADI MEIN LAADDOO DEEWANA and MIRZA JUULIET with both films looking at business around the 15-20 lakhs nett mark. It was the poorest week of the year so far at the box office.
