Akshay Kumar in Jolly LLB 2
Actor was named in footwear brand’s legal suit over ‘defamatory’ reference in film
MID-DAY (April 27, 2017)

The Delhi High Court yesterday exempted actor Akshay Kumar from a personal appearance before a trial court in a defamation case filed by footwear company, Bata, which had objected to a dialogue in his film, Jolly LLB 2. “Till the next date of hearing, the petitioner (Kumar) is exempted from personal appearance,” said Justice Mukta Gupta and fixed the matter for hearing on May 23. The judge added the actor could be represented through his counsel.

Kumar had moved the HC against the summons issued against him by the trial court on February B and sought quashing of the complaint lodged against him and others — co- actor Annu Kapoor, director Subhash Kapoor and film producer Fox Star Studios.

Bata-India, in its complaint, had alleged that “disparaging comments and defamatory reference” were made against the brand in the trailer.
