Even as he preps up for the
Sanjay Dutt biopic which takes off in the New Year and Ayan Mukerji's
fantasy adventure, Dragon, Ranbir Kapoor has managed to make time to
shoot a cameo for Ronnie Screwvala's independent debut production which
is as yet untitled.
Mirror as learnt that the 34-year-old actor shot for the film, which is being directed by Anand Tiwari and features Vicky Kaushal and Angira Dhar in the lead, in a residential complex in suburban Mumbai last week.
Ranbir appears to Vicky in a dream sequence. The actor wrapped up his portions in the strictly-under-wraps film in a day, delighting locals in Kandivali with his surprise appearance.
“Ranbir and Ronnie have known each other for years and Anand too was an assistant director on Anurag Basu's Barfi! which featured Ranbir in the lead. So when Ronnie approached him for the special appearance he readily agreed,“ informs a source close to the development, pointing out that early last year, the actor had even launched the cover of Ronnie's book Dream With Your Eyes Open.
Sumeet Vyas, who is a household name among the Gen X after the popular web series Permanent Roommates, has co-written the script with Anand that is a romcom with a hilarious take on intricacy of relationships and the changing dynamics in society. “The film revolves around an unmarried couple looking for an apartment in Mumbai,“ adds the source.
In the past Ranbir had made a guest appearances in Vikas Bahl and Nitesh Tiwari's Chillar Party. His song, “Tai Tai Phis!“ was a huge hit with kids. He also made a 'surprise' appearance in Rajkumar Hirani's PK who after Aamir Khan, is the next alien, to touch base on Planet Earth. He was also there in Nitesh's Bhoothnath Returns, playing himself.
When Mirror reached out to Anand he refused to say anything except “Merry Christmas“.

Vicky Kaushal recently came on board the Sanjay Dutt biopic as the best friend of Ranbir Kapoor, who plays the lead role. Now, the latter is ready to return the favour. RK will shoot an elaborate scene for Vicky’s next film that marks Ronnie Screwvala’s first attempt as independent film producer.
A crew member in the know informs us, “During a workshop for the Dutt biopic, Vicky happened to mention the premise and details of his film to Ranbir, who seemed enthused by it. The makers were looking for an actor for the crucial cameo and when director Anand Tiwari broached the topic, Ranbir instantly gave his nod.”
More than Vicky, Ranbir wanted to do the cameo for Ronnie as a goodwill gesture. It may be recalled that Ranbir had also launched the producer’s last book and their banter at the event had left the audience in splits.
The film’s team shot with Ranbir in Kandivali on Friday. “It was a day-long shoot. Even Ronnie was present at the studio that day. After pack-up, there was a small bash on the set to usher in the festive season.”
Repeated attempts to contact director Anand and Ranbir were met with no response.
