Ever since Himesh Reshammiya and his wife of 22 years, Komal, filed for divorce in the Bandra family court on Tuesday, it was speculated that the break-up was caused by his proximity to television actress Sonia Kapoor.

Buzz is that Himesh and Komal, who have a son Swayam, have been staying separately for a while now. The actor-musician says, “Mutual respect is the most important thing in life. Giving due respect to our relationship, Komal and I have decided to part ways amicably.“ He added that their respective families have also accepted the move. “Every member of our family respects our decision. Nonetheless, Komal is and will always remain a part of our family.“

Himesh's alleged relationship with Sonia was first reported in 2006.However, asserting that their separation should not be attributed to Sonia, Komal says, “No one should be dragged into this matter; no one is responsible for it. Our marriage failed because of compatibility issues. Sonia is not to be blamed for this; we love her like a family member.“ On her part, Sonia maintains, “Himesh's family is mine too and I love them.“

Meanwhile, sources say that post divorce, Komal will continue to live in the same building where Himesh also resides.
