On Thursday Shahid Kapoor started shooting for Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s upcoming period romance, Padmavati.

Deepika Padukone who plays the Queen of Mewar and Ranveer Singh who enacts the role of Alauddin Khilji, the medieval-era Delhi sultan who, enamoured of Padmavati, wants to make her a part of his harem and wages war on her kingdom, had started before him.

Shahid plays Maharaja Ratan Singh, the King of Mewar and Padmavati’s husband who with his soldiers fights for her honour till his dying breath.

Shahid shared a photograph of himself in a beard online, captioning it, “Day 1. ‘Padmavati’ wish me luck guys.”
