When Arjun Kapoor arrived with childhood buddy Varun Dhawan on Sajid Khan and Riteish Deshmukh's chat show, Yaaron Ki Baraat, the Half Girlfriend actor set the tone for the evening by cheekily declaring that they were “just good friends“. A lot of spilling of beans and leg-pulling ensued thereafter.

The duo, dressed in colour-coordinated blue tees, made a grand entry, dancing to Varun's chartbuster “Saturday“ from Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania. Both of them come from film families and grew up attending the same birthday parties and get-togethers. Arjun revealed that he was closer to Varun's elder brother, filmmaker Rohit Dhawan, but hit it off with him when they joined Barry John's Acting Studio at the same time.

According to Arjun, Varun was the extrovert who would interact with everyone in class, especially the girls, while he was an introvert and would sit back and watch his friend charm his way into the girls' hearts.

Turns out, before the duo were propelled into stardom with leading man roles, the two jigri dosts played trees, animals and other props during their acting school days.Arjun also revealed that he had wanted to be a director and has even learnt editing while his 29-year-old friend was always the attention seeker. “Varun's idea of 'doing business' (a phrase used for when an actor has to look occupied when he/she is in a frame but doesn't have lines) invariably ended up with him taking off his shirt. Needless to say, flaunting those chiselled abs got him ample attention,“ Arjun chuckled.

Varun opined that his pal is usually reserved and only opens up with his close group of friends.“Arjun is a good boy who goes to work, comes back home, watches movies and then sleeps. I think he's lonely and needs someone in his life to complete him. I have even introduced him to a few girls,“ the Dishoom actor confided, and his statement was answered with an instant retort from Arjun, “When on earth was this?“

Varun in Arjun’s directorial debut!

They may be rivals on screen, but off screen Varun Dhawan and Arjun Kapoor are best friends. They are childhood buddies and have seen each other grow through various stages in their life. In an upcoming episode of Yaaron Ki Baraat hosted by Sajid Khan and Riteish Deshmukh, they made their entry in their own quirky style — both pretending to be janitors and doppelgangers of themselves.

Later, Arjun revealed that he was actually good friends with Varun’s elder brother, Rohit, and all three of them would hang out together. When the Half Girlfriend actor and Varun joined Barry John’s film academy, not only did their bond become stronger, they even made their Bollywood debuts in the same year and have seven films each to their credit!

Few know that both Varun and Arjun worked as assistant directors before they made their acting debuts. Highly appreciative of his friend, who assisted Karan Johar on Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna, when he was barely 17, Varun said, “Arjun is not just an excellent actor, but also a brilliant director and editor, making him a complete package.” Incidentally, Arjun had even assisted Varun’s father David Dhawan on No Entry along with his buddy. So floored was Varun with the rough edit made by Arjun, he immediately went to his dad and told him about his friend’s hidden talent.

Says Varun, “During a conversation at a party, Arjun had assessed my capabilities and told me that when he makes his debut as a director, he would cast me in his movie. I am waiting to be cast by Arjun in his directorial venture!”

They dated the same girl...

On the same episode, that will be telecast this Saturday, there were gags and giggles galore. From pole dancing to each other’s poll kholo-ing, Varjun (that’s what their fans call them!) did everything on the show.

In a fun trivia quiz, when Varun lost to Arjun, the former had to dress up like a girl! But along with all this dress-up drama, the two actors also made an interesting revelation on the show — that Varun and Arjun dated the same girl! At the same time! The two actors admitted as much in front of the audience.

Varun and Arjun had enrolled in the same acting class and met this girl (not from a filmi background!). Both, Varun and Arjun, were trying their luck with the girl. But it was the girl who two-timed them without their knowledge. When they learned that the girl was cheating on them, they both dumped her at the same time, rather than fight with each other over her. Such is this dostana!

If the two were to ever come together on screen, this sure would make for a great track in a comic caper.
