While Amitabh Bachchan on Tuesday tried to deflect the attention his birthday attracts by asserting that “it’s not a festival”, thousands of his fans gathered outside one of his Juhu residences, Janak, to mark his 74th, with many of them dressed as characters from Abhimaan, Namak Haraam, Trishul, Don, Sholay and Coolie (left).

While the birthday boy was gifted a life-size jukebox that plays all of his hit songs, he cut as many as seven birthday cakes. Even the cops, deployed to manage the crowd that was ten times the number that turns up every Sunday to greet him, helped themselves to selfies with Big B at the end of their shifts.
