Composer Amaal Mallik has
accused composer-lyricist Mithoon of plagiarising his T-series single,
the Emraan Hashmi and Esha Gupta-starrer, “Main Rahoon Ya Na Rahoon“. He
contends that the closing verse of Mithoon's new single featuring
Shraddha Sharma, “Ab Alvida“, which recently released on YouTube, has
been lifted from his track and he has intimated T-series who own the
rights to his song in case they want to take legal action.
“I came across Mithoon's song while I was watching a video by my mentors Salim-Suleiman. One of my friends pointed out that a minute and 30 seconds into the song, it has a striking resemblance to mine,“ Amaal told Mirror, adding that he is particularly hurt since his creation was a tribute to his grandfather, Sardar Mallik.
The 25-year-old musician son of Daboo Mallik is quick to add that he only wants credit for his song. “For me, Mithoon is a legend. it was an honour to work with him on Sanam Re but you don't expect someone of his stature to do something like this. The least he can do is own up, even if it was not intentional,“ Amaal reasons, adding that he is yet to reach out to Mithoon on the issue.
“I don't want to malign him or make money. My songs are my babies and I am protective about them, especially 'Main Rahoon Ya Na Rahoon' since I dedicated it to my grandfather. I cry every time I hear it. If this had happened in the West, it would have amounted to a lawsuit of billions. Mithoon remained unavailable for comment.
