Farah Khan will soon start teaching choreography to students as part of a 12-week course. But Farah has not forgotten that it was Aamir Khan who taught her about cinema and choregraphy moves. Farah tells us, “My first day as a choreographer was on the sets of Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikander and I was very nervous. Aamir insisted on calling me Masterniji (laughs) and that made it worse for me. I know he was pulling my leg because till then I was an assistant giving claps on the sets and now, suddenly I had a whistle around my neck. I have to add that the unit and Aamir were very sporting about it. It was Aamir who sat patiently and taught us about camera techniques. He was my teacher in the first song of the film as he taught me the left and right of camera, about the invisible line, how both the actors in the same frame should not look in the same direction, camera lensing etc. These are things which even now people are bothered about. I see that people today don’t know the basic grammar of filmmaking like the left and right side of the camera. I tell people that you should break the rules, but learn the grammar at least once.”
