A year after Vicky Kaushal
caught the public eye in Neeraj
Ghaywan's directorial debut, Masaan, following up with the musical
Zubaan, his younger brother Sunny is gearing up for a Bollywood debut in
the road film, Sunshine Music Tours And Travels. The 27-year-old actor
plays the curiously named character Sunburn, fashioned after a waiter,
producer-director Shailendra Singh met a few years ago at a dhaba in
Doodhpathri, a hill station in Jammu and Kashmir. “I auditioned at sir's
office with a monologue about Sunburn's dreams and aspirations,“ the
actor reminisces.
Sunny was studying to become a Chartered Accountant while pursuing a
commerce degree when he decided to join films. “My father (action
director and stunt co-ordinator Shyam Kaushal) had done his Masters in
English Literature from Punjab so education was important. I was a
bright kid but had always wanted to become an actor so I left the course
midway to assist Raaghav Dar on My Friend Pinto, which was produced by
Sanjay sir (Sanjay Leela Bhansali),“ he reveals.
Did he get any showbiz advice from his father and elder brother? “Dad told me to be humble, grounded and to focus on work. Vicky just told me to not be pretentious,“ Sunny smiles, adding that both brothers grew up on masala movies and hero-worshipped Akshay Kumar, Suniel Shetty and Anil Kapoor. “But after watching The Godfather, we were drawn towards intense dramas. Vicky is a quiet guy, I'm the chirpy one.“
