Single mom responsibilities may have kept Suchitra Krishnamoorthi away from the arc lights for over a decade, but as she readies for her stage debut next week, daughter Kaveri (15) has decided to contribute to it in her own way. Suchitra will put her vocal cords to test during the theatrical depiction of her 2013 fictional memoir, Drama Queen while a song by Kaveri will close the play.
Says Suchitra, “My daughter was keen to be part of Drama Queen, but she has to prepare for her class X board exams. The pressure of a live performance is just something else. But, she has got a song in the play. We will use it as the finale track.” So, will Kaveri join her on stage for that? Suchitra is noncommittal. “You will have to watch the play to find out,” she says. She discloses that her song has been woven into the narrative. It will be a rendition of personally written verses titled Hi, Call Me Suchi.
Drama Queen, to be presented by AGP World, is scheduled for September 30 and October 2 in Mumbai. Filmmakers Nagesh Kukunoor, Ken Ghosh, comic Suresh Menon and sister Sujata are also part of the play.
Remind her about Bombay Dreams — Sir Andrew Llyod Webber and AR Rahman’s musical in which she was supposed to play the lead part, but removed without notice after — and she says, “I don’t want to dwell on the past. It was a scandal at that time and yes, I was taken aback by the way it happened. But, it’s no more a bad memory. In fact, I don’t remember any of it now.”
