Sonakshi Sinha remembers her school and college days
Nayandeep Rakshit (DNA; September 5, 2016)

Sonakshi Sinha has had a rather interesting education. She loved Biology and English in school and eventually enrolled in a fashion designing course at an all girls’ college. Soon after, she decided to follow in her father’s footsteps and venture into Bollywood and the rest, they say is history. On Teachers’ Day, Sonakshi talks about her fond memories of her gurus from school and college...

What kind of student were you?
I was not studious, but I was a sincere student. I would not have to be told to finish my assignments and my homework. I would always do it on my own. I was an eager student and I always wanted to be the teacher’s pet. I was one of those students.

Did you ever face your teachers’ ire?
I would always want to be in the good books of my teachers so no, never. Maybe, sometimes I have been scolded like it happens to almost everyone in class. Nothing serious that I can remember.

What were your favourite subjects?
My favourite subjects were Biology and English. I used to hate Math, I still do. Whenever I would see those numbers, my head would just switch off. I used to like Geography, too.

Ever played pranks on your teacher?
I have never played any pranks on my teachers. I was one of those very well behaved kids. Also, I didn’t have the guts to play a prank on any of my teachers, both in school or in college.

Your favourite teacher...
I had a wonderful teacher who used to teach illustrations when I was in fashion school. I was the only girl from my entire batch who had not gone to any drawing classes. So, I was completely raw when she started teaching us. She really encouraged me to develop my own style because everybody else had learnt how to make those croquis. She taught me rendering and I really appreciate that. Today, if I have a style when I paint or I draw, it’s because she let me discover it on my own.

A teacher you crushed on...
I never had a teacher that I could crush on.

A teacher you were really scared of...
There was one — Subramaniam Sir. He was really sweet but he could be really scary when he needed to be.

In touch with any of your teachers?
I am not in touch with any of my school teachers. I am in contact with my tuition teacher who taught me during my school days. For all events or festivals and birthdays, we keep in touch.

Have your teachers ever reached out to you after you became an actress?
They haven’t ever spoken to me after I became an actress. I would love to meet them all and see what they have to say. I would love to show Akira to them. They would be so proud of me, I am sure!
