Amaal Mallik is barely two
years old in the industry but he already has several hit songs in his
repertoire. Last year, he swept almost all awards for his song Sooraj
Dooba Hain. This year, too, has been going great for the 25-year-old
with tracks like Soch Na Sake, Tu Bhoola Jise, Sanam Re, Kar Gayi Chull,
Buddhu Sa Mann, Sab
Tera, Bol Do Na Zara, Salamat and Kuch Toh Hai climbing the music
charts. Now, Amaal is excited about his first Bollywood solo album
for M S Dhoni - The Untold Story.
He says, “Initially, I didn't know how many songs I would be doing in this movie. So, I composed as many as 27. When filmmaker Neeraj Pandey heard Besabriya, it made him believe that I could compose the entire soundtrack. I felt honoured as it is a prestigious film.“
Amaal and the team jammed for six hours daily for almost three months to work on the tracks. He adds that the biopic's music is different from anything that he has ever done before. He says, “The album's sound is commercial yet inspirational.“
Talking about his favourite track Jab Tak, he elaborates, “It is the only song that has a different melodic structure and was tough to crack - a romantic number from Dhoni's point of view. He is not a Bollywood hero but a cricketer, so, we worked on it accordingly. The song has old-school writing but the production arrangement is contemporary where orchestra meets lounge.“
Amaal has worked with Siddharth Basrur, an Indie musician, in Parwah Nahi. He says, “I wanted this rock song to sound like the real thing and his band knows the deal. This song stands out in my album.“
